Since 1915, BPB has steadily broadened its worldwide market to become the recognized leader in the manufacture of gypsum board products. At BPB, we keep pace with new market trends and advances in manufacturing in order to continuously expand our full line of quality gypsum board products, finishing compounds and textures and ceiling systems.

GlasRoc® Sheathing is a composite gypsum panel for exterior applications that provides exceptional long term protection to weather exposure. This unique technology combines reinforcing glass mats, fully-embedded glass mats into a water-resistant core positioned beneath a paperless polymer-modified gypsum surface, and a protective acrylic coating on the exterior surface. GlasRoc® Sheathing is compatible with most exterior wall systems and applications including but not limited to EIFS, cavity wall, conventional stucco, exterior cladding, exterior archways and exterior soffits.

          PART 3EXECUTION

          3.1EXAMINATION

A.Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B.If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

          3.2PREPARATION

A.Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

B.Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

          3.3INSTALLATION

          A.Install GlasRoc® Sheathing in accordance GA-253, ASTM C 1280 and manufacturer's written instructions.

B.Install fire rated GlasRoc® Sheathing Type X in accordance with UL design or GA-600.

C.Use sheathing in longest lengths available to reduce number of joints.

D.Cut boards at penetrations, edges, and other obstructions of work; fit tightly against abutting construction, unless otherwise indicated.
1.Install boards with a 3/8 inch (9 mm) setback where non-load-bearing construction abuts structural elements.
2.Install boards with a 1/4 inch (6 mm) setback where they abut masonry or similar materials that might retain moisture, to prevent wicking.
3.Allow no joints greater than 1/8 inch (3 mm).

E.Coordinate sheathing installation with flashing and joint-sealant installation so these materials are installed in sequence and manner that prevents exterior moisture from passing through completed exterior wall assembly.

F.Apply fasteners so screw heads bear tightly against face of sheathing boards but do not break embedded glass mat.

G.Do not bridge building expansion joints with sheathing; cut and space edges to match spacing of structural support elements.

H.Horizontal Installation: Install sheathing with long edges in contact with edges of adjacent boards without forcing. Abut ends of boards over centers of stud flanges, and stagger end joints of adjacent boards not less than one stud spacing. Screw-attach boards at perimeter and within field of board to each steel stud.
1.Space fasteners approximately 8 inches (200 mm) o.c. (or tighter spacing if recommended by manufacturer for specific application) and set back a minimum of 3/8 inch (9 mm) from edges and ends of boards.
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Edit the following paragraph to reflect the project requirements. Verify radius limitations and framing requirements with the manufacturer's recommendations. Delete if not required.

I.Exterior Concave and Convex Surfaces: Install sheathing for curved exterior surfaces in accordance with GA-226. Starting at one end against a temporary stop, fasten to framing members one at a time with fasteners spaced a minimum of 8 inches (200 mm) o.c. (or tighter spacing if recommended by manufacturer for specific application) and set back a minimum of 3/8 inch (9 mm) from edges and ends of boards. Note that frame spacing may need to be adjusted to meet curvature requirements.

J.Seal sheathing joints according to sheathing manufacturer's written recommendations.
1.Short Term (6 month exposure) - Apply elastomeric sealant on joints and trowel flat. Apply sufficient quantity of sealant to completely cover joints after troweling. Seal other penetrations and openings.
2.Long Term (as an alternate to separate weather-resistive barrier) - Apply glass-fiber mesh sheathing tape to fiberglass reinforced gypsum sheathing board joints, and apply and trowel silicone emulsion sealant to embed sealant in entire face of tape. Apply sealant to exposed fasteners with a trowel so fasteners are completely covered. Seal other penetrations and openings.

K.Finishing of Exterior Ceilings and Soffit installations according to sheathing manufacturer's written recommendations.

          3.4PROTECTION

A.Protect work from damage and deterioration until application of exposed finish material.
