Spray Foam Insulation Systems

Williamsport Regional Medical Center, a state-of-the-art facility that's part of the Susquehanna Health System, underwent a $250 million dollar construction and renovation project to improve and expand patient services in central Pennsylvania.

Foxwoods Resort Casino (the largest in North America) offers a vast array of gaming in seven casinos; AAA Four-Diamond hotels, restaurants from gourmet to quick service, world-renowned spas, award-winning golf, state-of-the-art theaters and exclusive retailers. To expand its shopping offering, Foxwoods partnered with Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. to build a new $115 million Tanger Outlet adjacent to the casino, providing convenient access for guests.

The City of Alliance upgraded its municipal waste water treatment facility for converting waste-to-energy via methane capture to power plant operations. PSI worked with the design/build contractor to design an efficient, economical insulation system for the metal building housing the heat exchangers.

The Scarsdale High School renovation was part of the district's school-wide energy efficiency initiative to improve building performance and reduce energy consumption. In addition to upgrades made to the lighting and HVAC equipment, detailed building envelope analysis identified significant heat loss thru uninsulated concrete roof panels and air leakage at the roof/wall transition. To control air leakage and insulate the roof panels, Staycell ONE STEP® 255 intumescent spray foam insulation was applied 2" thick to the sloped portions of the roof sealed to the top of the masonry wall.

The John F. Seiberling Federal Building sits above an unheated multi-floor parking garage. As part of upgrades to improve building performance and reduce energy consumption, portions of the parking garage ceiling (serving as the floor for the offices above) were insulated, reducing energy consumption, improving occupant comfort and eliminating condensation formed during the winter months underneath the office carpeting.

Situated near Lake Erie in downtown Cleveland, the 235,000 square foot Global Center for Health Innovation is part of $465 million building project to construct a permanent showroom of medical, surgical and hospital goods along with a new convention center. The goal of the project is to leverage Cleveland's reputation as a world class medical research hub (anchored by the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals) by bringing medical shows and conventions to the city.

The Seabrook Middle School renovation was part of the district's school-wide energy efficiency initiative to improve building performance and reduce energy consumption. In addition to upgrades made to the lighting and HVAC equipment, detailed building envelope analysis identified significant air leakage thru the roof/wall transition joints. According to a study conducted by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, air leakage is responsible for nearly 40% of heat/cooling loss in an average building.

The Block 38 mixed-use building combines retail, parking and housing into the first high-rise structure built in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska in over 20 years. At 10 stories, the building provides nearly 20,000 SF of retail space on the first level, 650 parking spaces on levels two through seven, and 50 residential units on levels eight through ten.

The Packer Hall Gymnasium renovation was part of a campus-wide energy efficiency initiative to improve building performance and reduce energy consumption. The most significant problem with the building related to student safety caused by condensation dripping from the roof structure onto the gymnasium floor. The standing seam metal roof deck was originally insulated with R-30 vinyl-faced fiberglass blanket. Over time the fiberglass lost most of its thermal efficiency from saturation caused by condensation trapped between the metal deck and the insulation's vinyl facer. At the purlins condensation resulted from compression of the fiberglass (resulting in low R-value) between the roof deck and purlin. The application consisted of fiberglass removal and replacement with the R-30 Staycell® HYBRID System, which consists of 4" Staycell® 265 covered with 1/2" Staycell ONE STEP® 255 intumescent spray foam insulation. Finally, the system was top coated white with Sherwin Williams “Fast-Clad" acrylic latex paint. The HYBRID System was chosen because it was more cost-effective than a standard foam and intumescent coating system.
